Evaluation of resting energy expenditure and body composition in obese patients
Jílková, Anna ; Matoulek, Martin (advisor) ; Zelinka, Tomáš (referee)
Introduction: The basis of obesity treatment is a conservative regimen based on a reduced diet and physical activity, individually set for each person. As the obese often show extreme deviations in body composition compared to individuals of normal weight, it is often difficult to determine their energy needs or determine their energy expenditure. The gold standard for determining resting energy expenditure (REE) is examination using indirect calorimetry (IC). This method can also detect deviations from the calculations of predictive equations, determine the degree of adaptation of the individual to low energy intake, and thus set the appropriate therapy. Objectives: The main objective of the work is the analysis and description of data on body composition and resting energy expenditure values of selected groups of obese individuals whose REE measurement results using indirect calorimetry reached a level below 95 % of the predicted REE calculated using the Harris Benedict (H-B) equation. The sub-goals are to describe the dependence of the size of some components of body composition on the size of the REE and to find out if the deviations between the number of the total measured REE and the REE calculated using H-B in the adapted group are significant. Methodology: For the research 71 patients of...
Comparative study eating habits university students.
ILLEOVÁ, Annemarie
My Bachelor thesis named "Comparative study of eating habits of university students" is focused on eating habits of research file, i.e. students from the fields of Health Education and National School. The theoretical part involves clarifying the impact of nutrition on an individual's health, describing the composition of the diet, from the point of view of macronutrients. The practical part analyses and evaluates the data collected from students. They provided the results of their weekly food income recorded in an application kaloricketabulky.cz. The thesis is focused on intake of fats, carbohydrates and proteins compared to the average recommended standards.
Physiological responses of walking on high obstacle
Zíková, Kateřina ; Baláš, Jiří (advisor) ; Bunc, Václav (referee)
Title: Physiological responses of walking on high obstacles Objectives: The aim of this thesis was to determine the effect of height on the physiological response of the organism when crossing an obstacle. Methods: In this experimental study, the energy demand of crossing an obstacle was assessed using the method of indirect calorimetry. 27 probands were crossing a low obstacle for 4 minutes and an high obstacle for 4 minutes, the monitored parameters were heart rate (HR), minute ventilation (VE), oxygen consumption (VO2), respiratory rate (RR), tidal volume (VT) Results: Crossing high obstacle raised physiological response compared to crossing low obstacle. VE parameter increased by an average of 87%. VO2 increased by 70%, RR by 39%, HR by 33%, VT by 27%. Conclusion: Walking high above the ground reflects the subjectively perceived risk with a physiological response. The height of the obstacle, which subjectively perceived risk, increases the metabolic demand of walking by 2/3. Kewords: balance, walking high above the ground, stress, energy expenditure
Energy demand of exercise on stable and unstable surfaces
Muniová, Zuzana ; Jebavý, Radim (advisor) ; Blažek, Dušan (referee)
Title: Energy expenditure of exercise on stable and unstable surfaces Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the difference between energy expenditure of exercise on stable and unstable surfaces. Methods: Ten athletes (aged 27.4 ± 2.67), current students or graduates from Faculty of physical education and sport at Charles University, took part in this study. The study was an intragroup randomized experiment. Energy expenditure was determined by spiroergometry based on inhaled O2 and exhaled CO2. The metabolic analyzer MetaMax 3B was used to determine respiratory parameters. The measured data were analyzed through basic statistical operations. Results: The highest average energy expenditure of 252,6 kJ was measured for dynamic exercises on unstable surfaces. The value for the average energy expenditure on stable surfaces was 225,7 kJ. This was followed by energy expenditure of static exercise on unstable surfaces, where the average value was 205,4 kJ. Probands showed the lowest energy expenditure during static exercise on stable surfaces, where the average value was 177,5 kJ. The average difference between static exercise on unstable surfaces and static exercise on stable surfaces was 15,9 %. The difference between dynamic exercise on unstable surfaces and dynamic exercise on stable...

Kašparová, Anna ; Polášková, Marcela (advisor) ; Süss, Vladimír (referee)
Title: Nutrition monitoring in top Czech Republic women white water slalom athletes in the race period of the season. Aim of the study: Comparison of actual quantitative and qualitative composition of the diet in the Czech water slalom paddlers (women) in the racing period to daily recommended standards for the population group of athletes with a corresponding energy output. Using the results, create both general and individual recommendations and assess the need for the use of supplements in the diet of water slalom athletes. Methods: The thesis is a case study and it is a kind of qualitative research. For our study we chose two main methods. Prospective study method and the method of interview. To determine the total daily energy intake and diet quality inventorial analysis of the four- day dietary record of the respondents was used. For comparison with the standards, the data were subsequently processed by standardized software applications of database functions MS Excel (Vilikus a kol., 2002) and accompanied by a critical commentary. To survey the data concerning use of food supplements has been used a method in which athletes respond to questions asked. The data were assessed in writing and graphically. Results: Our study shows and critically comment on the differences between recommended and...
Energy expenditure in Zumba
Řehořková, Michaela ; Baláš, Jiří (advisor) ; Bunc, Václav (referee)
The main objective of this study was to assess the energy demand of Zumba. The energy demand was determined by the indirect calorimetry. Four middle-ages women experienced in zumba participated in the study. A walking test untill the individual maximal exhaustion was performed on a treadmill to determine the relationship between heart rate, pulmonary ventilation and oxygen consumption. The energy expenditure of zumba was undertaken during 3 lessons, which took place at intervals of 3-5 days. We found an average oxygen consumption of 25,73 ± 0,95 ml.min-1 .kg-1 , which corresponded to the energy expenditure of 0,55 ± 0,03 kJ.min-1 .kg-1 . Therefore, we consider Zumba as the activity with high energy demand.
Functional Profile of Performance Billiard Players
Manda, Filip ; Bunc, Václav (advisor) ; Zahálka, František (referee)
Title: Functional Profile of Performance Billiard Players Objectives: The main aim of thesis was to find out maximal functional characteristics and body composition of performance billiard players by using laboratory testing. Next step was to define load intensity during simulated match. Methods: There were used biomedical measurements as a body measuring, bioelectrical impedance, laboratory spiroergometric measuring by maximal stress testing. Field spiroergometric measuring was provide during simulated match in pool hall. To find the role of physical fitness in performance billiard were used half structured interview with open questions and online survey. Results: The findings show that tested billiard players achieve levels of physical fitness from average to very good values. But some of them are classified as overweight and obese. Long-time playing billiard does not have any important influence on asymetric composition of muscle mass of upper limbs. During playing billiard an oxygen consumption didn't get over 30% of VO2max and values of heart rate were between 39 to 59% HRmax. During playing billiard an energy expenditure grows from 222 to 330% of BM. Billiard energetic demands of tested players are moving between 14,6 kJ to 29,3 kJ. Another result of thesis is a statement about the role of...
